Internet of things and smart services are the big stories this week, with several clubs keen to secure the services of young players.
Here’s a look at the latest news in the space.
The most promising young internet of-things player to emerge so far this season is 19-year-old Croatian international Haramad Mohemdi-Rad, who made his first team debut for the Under-20s on Saturday against Leicester City.
The midfielder spent the first three months of the season on loan at Genk, where he played a starring role in the club’s second-placed finish in the League.
A season in the Eredivisie will see him join up with Genk again next season, after they lost to Werder Bremen in the Europa League on Tuesday.
Mohemidi-Rad’s progress to the first team at Genks is remarkable, and his development from a young player into a talented player will undoubtedly benefit the team as it prepares for the next phase of its season.
The club have already signed the promising defender Muhsen Ben-Ghiat from FC Twente for a further €4m, while former Chelsea player Javi Mancini will join the club from Racing 92.
In Italy, Fiorentina’s Silvio Sanches is another promising young player, as he looks to cement his place at the top of the Italy squad this summer.
Sanches joined Fioressina on loan from Atalanta in January, but his performances in Serie A so far have been nothing short of spectacular, and he has already been rewarded with a first-team place.
Andrea Pirlo is another youngster with promise in the Premier League, as the defender has enjoyed a fruitful first season with Southampton, having scored seven goals in 23 appearances.
The 22-year old, who was born in Lecce, is currently a free agent and will decide his future in the coming weeks, but there are a number of players in the region with similar potential.
With Manchester City, Manchester United and Tottenham all interested in the talented forward, it’s no surprise that Roma have been linked with a move.
Roma are thought to be in the market for a centre-back after losing Virgil van Dijk to Tottenham, while Inter Milan are also keen on the versatile centre-half.
Elsewhere, Southampton have confirmed that former Juventus defender Luciano Spalletti will join them on loan for the remainder of the year.
The Italian international has already signed a new deal at the Stadio Olimpico, but it’s understood that Spallett will join up in January.
The 24-year -old has been linked to Manchester United before, with Manchester City and Liverpool also interested in signing the defender.
There’s been a lot of activity around Roma this summer, with the club hoping to add more players to their squad.
The arrival of former Liverpool defender Daniele De Rossi, the signing of midfielder Andrea Pirlol, and the arrival of young Italian striker Alessandro Del Piero could all lead to a return to Serie A in the near future.
It was also announced that former AC Milan striker Diego Costa will sign for Roma, with a €2.5m fee agreed.
Despite the signing, it appears that Roma will be without striker Marco Materazzi, who is still recovering from a knee injury.
The 30-year of age has made two appearances for the club this season, and is still awaiting the results of scans to see if he will be fit to feature against Liverpool on Wednesday.
