The NFC East is in shambles.
The Miami Dolphins have lost four straight and have lost to the New York Jets in six straight, and the Carolina Panthers have dropped four straight.
This division is in the crosshairs, and this is the kind of thing that will make the Super Bowl look easy.
The Seahawks were the most consistent team in the league last season.
They ranked second in the NFL in points scored (37.6 per game), and they ranked fourth in points allowed (22.7 per game).
This year, Seattle has lost seven of its past nine games, and it’s been a rough season for the defense.
The Seahawks rank 20th in DVOA, 20th against the pass (32.5 percent), and 20th versus the run (19.6 percent).
They’ve been outscored by nearly 10 points per game.
That was the case last season, when the Seahawks went 5-1.
This year’s Seahawks are 4-2.
The only thing holding the Seahawks back from making the playoffs is that they are not playing in the NFC Championship Game, and that the division is too close to call.
This season, Seattle ranks 19th against pass (24.9 percent), 30th against run (25.7 percent), 24th against points scored per game (18.4), 24rd against points allowed per game ($3.2), 24nd against yards per game allowed (6.6), and 22nd against first downs allowed (7.1).
The Seahawks are averaging just 2.7 points per drive.
They’ve allowed 1,000 yards to the opposing team, and they’re giving up 3.5 more first downs than they’re allowed.
They’re allowing nearly 3.8 yards per carry, and last year, they allowed a league-high 12 first downs per game, and a league low six rushing touchdowns.
Last season, Russell Wilson threw for a league high 5,937 yards and 26 touchdowns.
This time around, he’s throwing for a career-high 4,838 yards and 18 touchdowns.
His passer rating has dipped to 91.3, which is below his career average of 95.6.
He’s throwing fewer deep balls, but he’s also throwing fewer short passes.
Wilson has thrown nine touchdowns and six interceptions.
The offense is averaging just 14.1 points per contest.
The defense is allowing the fourth-most points in the AFC, which makes it seem like the Seahawks should be able to hang with the best teams.
But they are allowing just 12.9 points per play, a rate that’s the worst in the conference.
The biggest question mark in the division has been the performance of the Miami Dolphins.
The Dolphins have dropped three straight games and are 0-6 in the playoffs.
This is a team that is expected to contend for a Super Bowl title, but it’s not playing at the level it should be playing at.
The Carolina Panthers, who are 9-6 and are looking to win their second division title since 2010, have a chance to win a third.
They lost four of their last five games, but they’re currently in fourth place in the Coastal Division, behind New England, New York, and Atlanta.
They rank second in total defense (295.3 yards per contest), third in sacks (25), and fifth in points per defensive play (6).
This is an area where the Panthers have been able to get away with allowing a high number of sacks, and even with Cam Newton, the Panthers are allowing the most yards per pass attempt (7
