Huawei and Huawei-branded phones will be available in the US, Canada and Mexico, starting with a pair of new flagship devices that could set the stage for a new era of IoT.
The Huawei Mate 10 and Mate 10 Pro both boast features that will make them popular with consumers and, like their counterparts in other regions, offer the ability to be configured for home automation, voice control, security, health and other uses.
Mate 10s will have a dual-camera setup, allowing users to snap a picture of themselves from the back or front, while Mate 10 Pros will have the ability for a selfie.
Huawei and Dhl will also announce the Huawei-led “Internet of Things Operating System” on September 17, a product that will provide developers with access to a set of tools and APIs for building IoT applications.
“We’re building the world’s first truly cloud-native IoT operating system, to provide a platform for building secure, secure IoT applications,” said Huawei’s director of product strategy, James Lee.
This is Huawei’s first foray into the world of IoT, and its first major effort into the home automation market.
Huawei was one of the first to announce plans for a home automation platform that would combine a smartphone, a home control system, and a remote control, with the promise of a secure home and the ability of controlling it remotely via a smartphone.
It also introduced the Huawei Home Smart Assistant, which allows users to control a device from anywhere.
Since then, the company has been busy working on its Home Assistant and Home Hub.
A number of other Huawei products are also on the horizon.
Among the new Huawei products announced today is the Huawei Mate 7 Pro, a device that will include a 5.2-inch Full HD display, 4K video recording, and Wi-Fi 802.11ac.
Alongside the device, the Huawei device also boasts a camera that can shoot at a resolution of 5 megapixels and a fingerprint sensor that is capable of unlocking the device.
Other Huawei products include the Huawei Pro 5, the Mate 7 and the Huawei M8, which will be priced at $549 and $649, respectively.
More Huawei products to come soon, including the Huawei P9 and the Mate 10.
