In a small corner of the internet, a few developers have begun to create tools that could provide security solutions to the millions of devices that will soon be connected to the internet.
One of these companies, Bitdefending, is building a software platform for detecting malware and malicious code, and developing tools that will allow users to take control of their computers.
Bitdefenders tools will be the basis of a new internet-of and IoT-certified certification programme that aims to help companies make their devices more secure.
The aim is to bring security into everyday life.
The company has developed a suite of tools that can be used to protect IoT devices against malware and attack attempts.
The tools are already being used in a number of countries, and are being introduced to companies that do business with the Internet of Things.
The new certification programme Bitdefends announced on Monday will see a number companies, such as Microsoft and Google, and a number governments, such a the US, the UK and China, join forces to work together to develop a new certification process that will be open to all companies, including those that do not currently have an internet of Things-certificated solution.
BitDefenders’ new certification system will use the same standards and certification processes as those already used in the cybersecurity sector.
“We’re using a very standardised set of standards to make sure we are meeting the needs of all IoT devices,” Bitdefences CEO Ben McEvoy told the BBC.
“What’s interesting about the internet- of-things ecosystem is that it’s really changing how we get our information, and so we’re really taking the knowledge that has been built over the last two or three decades to the next level.”
It is not the first time that the internet has brought together a number people working on different parts of the security industry to create a common set of security standards.
In 2014, the US National Institute of Standards and Technology created a certification programme for internet-connected devices that is similar to the one Bitdefended is aiming to build.
The technology is being rolled out across several parts of IT and security, and includes standards and best practices for internet protocols, protocols for data integrity and authentication, and the security of hardware and software.
The US Department of Homeland Security is also involved in the process, and is expected to announce the certification programme in the coming months.
“The internet of devices has changed the way we interact with the world,” McEvoys said.
“There are so many devices now, it’s hard to make sense of it.
But, we are able to see how the things that we do with these devices can be exploited, and what the vulnerabilities are.”
The Bitdefensions certification programme aims to be an industry standard and can help companies get devices up to the standard that other standards require.
It is an effort to address the fact that the devices that consumers buy for home security and IoT devices that are being connected to them are not secure.
“These devices are not going to protect us from a hacker,” McDevoy said.
He said that Bitdefying has already seen a number devices from some of the major players, including Apple, Amazon, Google and Microsoft, that have been infected with malware.
“I think the thing that I would say that BitDefending is doing is that they are putting their money where their mouth is and creating a common security framework,” McDavid said.
Bit Defenders is a software company that was founded by McEvox and McEvoya in 2009.
It has now grown into a multi-million dollar business, with revenue of around $300 million.
McEvoyle said that the company is “really pleased” that the US Department the US government has joined forces with the tech companies to bring together the security community to develop the new certification scheme.
“It’s a really great thing that the government and industry are working together to bring about a common framework that will help companies that have no internet- or IoT-enabled products,” he said.
The BitDefender certification scheme will see the use of a number standards and standards that McDevoys said will be “an industry standard”.
These standards and protocols will also be used for the BitDefends certification.
McDevoya said that “this will be a good opportunity for other manufacturers to make this a standard that will apply to their devices, and help them secure their devices and their customers”.
